Custom domain

Is it possible to get (for payment) an own url (like for example rightpedia.org)? We would pay for that, name registration price is about 13 euro/year. You only have to buy the domain name (and assign its nameservers to ns1.orain.org and ns2.orain.org), and we'll setup the rest. Southparkfan (talk) 09:48, 15 February 2015 (GMT)
It seems to be the case, that registration and hosting are usually combined. Could you handle a name registration for us? I have now a name somewhere and it costs 13 euro/year. We could offer that amount for this purpose. The name we'd like is rightpedia.org, rightpedia.info, rightpedia.com, rightpedia.us or rightpedia.co.uk, in this order. You only need to buy the domain name - our servers will "host" it. Orain uses Namecheap, but you are not required to use them. Orain does not handle domain name registrations. Southparkfan (talk) 16:30, 1 March 2015 (GMT)

Login problem

Hi there, the following login problem occurs with my wiki: if I browse to my wikis sub-domain ufoi.orain.org and try to login, I always get redirected to the "no permission" site. The only way to access my wiki is to browse to orain.org, log in and then browse my wikis sub-domain.

Abuse Filter / blank pages

@Southparkfan:/@Addshore: We've talked about this before but I figured I should log it in the tech spot. Again just confirmed the issue with 'blank pages' with abuse filter. Triggering the abuse filter is the only time I've ever seen the issue. I tripped Special:AbuseFilter/1 @ quantixhl2rpwiki and the page was just completely blank. As soon as I changed the filter so I didn't trip it, the page loaded. I think SPF previously said it was a HHVM issue? Dunno.. sucks tho :( NDKilla (talk) 17:36, 19 May 2015 (BST)

Downtime this morning (20 May 2015)

There was some downtime this morning caused by a large spike in traffic, probable DDOS, which out current host Digital Ocean dealt with by stopping traffic to our servers for a period of time. Sorry for any inconveniences caused. ·addshore· talk to me! 11:17, 20 May 2015 (BST)

The file linking to Wikimedia Commons no longer works.

Articles themselves are showing up with the images as red links where once they had commons images. I purge the articles a couple times. I go to the images and the images aren't there. I purge the images a couple times. Still nothing.

For example, I picked two random Wikimedia Commons images:

I can't replicate the issue. All the links you said don't work, work. At least on meta and rightwiki. Individual wikis can have commons linking disabled, but it's enabled by default, and those were working. The issue may have been indirectly caused by the issues Orain has been having at a whole for the last several days, but right now those links work. Cheers, NDKilla (talk) 13:37, 25 May 2015 (BST)

Can't create account

I noticed this problem before on certain networks. I haven't looked up your IP but is there any chance your network is filtering the services that provide captchas? If trying to create an account again at a later time still didn't work leave a note here and I believe sysadmins can create user accounts but I'd have to see. Extension:CreateWiki problem?

Is there a problem with the CreateWiki extension? I noticed the long backlog at Proposals for new wikis and Southparkfan's comment a few days ago, but is this still a problem? Just wondering. Wynter (talk) 23:46, 24 June 2015 (BST)

@Wynter: This is indeed still a problem. The cloudflare API usage in the extension is currently not working (So CNAME records must be created by a limited number of users with CF access, currently excluding myself.) Thumbnail problems

It appears that images 3600x3600 or larger will not create thumbnails for the images, seen this a few places and not exactly sure what the issue is. Might be the built in limit on thumbnails, or an actual limitation that might have to be worked around.

$wgImageLimits This page is related to the thumbnail issue, as it's larger than the largest default thumbnail size. I believe you can just create a feature request to have this changed, but depending on the sizes of the file it may still be limited. (sysadmin) NDKilla (talk) 21:10, 24 June 2015 (BST)
The page says the largest size is 1280x1024 for thumbnails. I've seen larger images than this work and be thumbnails so I am not sure the maximum size. The main Wikimedia/Wikipedia of course allows infinite size images to work. This sounds like a limit in the software that generates the thumbnail rather than mediawiki itself. A lot of times Wikimedia software uses a command line program called ImageMagick to generate the thumbnails. I tested it and 3600x3400 is around the maximum size it will work. I checked some other large images uploaded here and they were about 3500px and thumbnailed so that is about the maximum. Chemtrail Morgellons (talk) 00:08, 25 June 2015 (BST)
I'm not sure what thumbnail software we use on Orain tbh.. pretty tired right now but will look into that more in the near future.. :)

www. redirect for permanentfuturelab

When browsing to http://www.permanentfuturelab.wiki/ we get an "Error 1001 DNS resolution error" from CloudFlare. Can you please create a permanent redirect (301 http response) to http://permanentfuturelab.wiki/ ? @Reception123: Please keep the current situation. Any ETA when this can be fixed. A lot of users are common with typing www.permanentfuturelab.wiki instead of permanentfuturelab.wiki . If this can't be fixed within a week, is it possible to add a temporary IP address (149.210.207.127) in your DNS for the www. record, then I will do a redirect on my server. @Reception123: We prefer the custom domain. Is it possible to contribute technical administration for Orain in general? Don't know how to join the team. @Jurjendevries: Yes, there are a few cases with custom domain. And yes, if you get involved in Orain and help around you will eventually get permissions. Personally, I only help around (the permissions I have are Meta administrator and wiki creator), so I only propose stuff, as I am not a programmer or anything like that. ( reset indent ) @Jurjendevries: Our entire config used to be available on the ansible playbook and people could propose changes but do to issues with ddos's our entire DNS configuration is now done on CloudFlare and a limited number of people have access to it. I don't know what changes are needed to get custom domains working, nor do I know how to make those changes. @Reception123: @Addshore: Sorry, missed that one. I registered the domain at provider TransIP. From there I configured your / Cloudflare nameservers to be used. I don't manage your DNS, and are only able to point to another nameserver. I used clark.ns.cloudflare.com as primary DNS, serena.ns.cloudflare.com as secundary, and ns1.orain.org as third. --Jurjendevries (talk) 11:03, 22 July 2015 (BST)

Only one small thing left, is it possible to do a wildcard 301 (permanent redirect) Eg. if a visitor is going to http://www.permanentfuturelab.wiki/wiki/Permanent_Future_Lab_Wiki can you redirect this to http://permanentfuturelab.wiki/wiki/Permanent_Future_Lab_Wiki . Else some search engines will see this as duplicate content, and some users will create external links to www. instead of without www. . Search bar problems

I'm asking this question pertaining to notsoepf.orain.org.

I know normally on search bars, it gives "suggestions" for articles when you type things in... but for some reason it isn't doing it on this wiki. According to the founder, it's only including pages that have been created on Orain (not the articles there before we moved here). Is there any way you can fix that? Sorry the explanation isn't the greatest, I'm not sure for the technical terms of it. I'm not asking you this from an account because I have a concurrent account/contrib problem, that I'm going to address in a new section once I'm done writing this. But- I'm CK, an admin on that wiki. Merge accounts?

Hello. Once again pertaining to the notsoepf.orain.org wiki, but also for all of orain I suppose.

Before the wiki had moved to Orain, I went by the username "Cp kid". I was tired of that name, so I created an orain account with the name "CK". My question is, if you can move all contributions from "Cp kid" over to the "CK" account, or if I'm just out of luck? It seems like there should be an easy way to do this, I wasn't sure though, but I just figured I'd ask anyways. I haven't edited on the CK account in fear of it complicating things for moving the contributions. Thanks for your help. Hi, CK. I don't believe there's a way to merge contributions, but if the CK account is deleted, we could globslly rename your old account. The last time I did this, L(ixxx)235 was locked out of their account, and is still unable to log in..
