Hello everyone!

Today it is with pleasure that I announce we have made the decision to move Orain away from the current host and set of datacenters to a new host and set of datacenters. Currently, all of our servers are hosted in Seattle with RamNode. We are planning to move to DigitalOcean in the Singapore datacenter. This has come after a recent string of downtimes and the current poorly designed set up. At the moment; redesigning our set up around what we have right now is impossible without further increasing the likelihood of downtimes for Orain. I will be releasing a technical plan on techwiki shortly after this announcement which will detail how we are planning to move over and what technical infrastructure changes we are making.

This decision was made by Dusti and myself after consulting financial and technical details. Dusti as in charge of our donations is making sure donations will be going to good use with this change over and that we will be sustainable for the future. I am responsible for ensuring the technical change over goes flawless and the minimal amount of disruption happens to every single service possible. Please see the technical plan for my part of the migration - Dusti may post some details here.

In brief, we are scheduling the migration for next Wednesday. I will be on hand on IRC and on-wiki during the whole migration including hours leading up and after the migration so feel free to poke me if you have questions or issues.

  • On Thursday, please ensure to update all your domains to point to 178.62.7.230 or lb.orain.org. All domains pointing to lb.orain.org do not need to do anything as we will handle that on our side. Thank you, John (talk) 14:07, 19 August 2014 (BST)
