This service looks interesting as an incubator for non-profit projects willing to give a try to a wiki. Question: is it possible to export the wiki to an own instance on a later date? I guess this is not a problem for the content, but it would be good to have a confirmation about exporting user data as well. Thank you.--QuimGil (talk) 17:26, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
- This should be possible though migration of non public data (user account passwords etc) will not be possible but content, logs etc. will. John (talk) 17:51, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
- If I understand correctly, this means that user "QuimGil" could go to the new wiki, reset password (this means that my email address would be part of the export) and then login, finding the same contributions, watchlist and preferences?--QuimGil (talk) 18:52, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
- Contributions yes. I don't think watch lists and preferences are moved be cause the software considers them non public data. Watch lists can easily be migrated through copy and pasting raw data. John (talk) 22:55, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
- I see. Just like email addresses, that data is private but only available to the own registered users and whoever has access to the database. In practice this means that if someone wants to migrate their wiki elsewhere they will need to address the problem of users not remembering their credentials and not being able to reset them, because the new wiki won't have their email addresses anymore. Is this right? Sorry for asking these questions and thank you for the quick replies. I hope they are useful for this great initiative, since it's a use case that some projects being incubated here might have in the future. In our case (the requested wikiconstitucio) we understand the deal and are fine with it. Thank you again.--QuimGil (talk) 17:29, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
