Anyone can have a domain for their wiki as a CNAME. Please go to the requests board to request a domain.

Note– Domain admins are not currently offering full access to domains, but CNAMEs for wikis are available.

Wiki owners who create wikis with substantial content will be allowed to request a free domain name. They will be given full access to the domain through the free DNS management service, Entry DNS. Domain owners will be able to set up standard A records, CNAMEs for use with various other free services, and MX records for email. The requirement of having substantial content is important, as the domains are reserved for people who are willing to work hard on their wikis.

  • You need to have a wiki with substantial content; it should look like you worked very hard.
  • Preferably have a strong and active community

  • To protect the users of your sites, you need to sign up for Entry DNS using a Google account protected with two factor authentication. If someone were to hack your account, they could redirect visitors to malicious websites. Google allows users to sign into multiple accounts at the same time, so you can create a Google account specifically to use with the domain account if you are worried about giving permissions for your main Google account. Note that 2FA does not make your account hack proof by any means.
  • You must keep the main wiki for which the domain was assigned at Orain
  • All wikis using the domain should be hosted by Orain
  • Use of the domain for anything that could be harmful to the top level domain, including anything morally objectionable will result in domain cancellation

Examples of objectionable activities

  • Using the domain to create throw away email addresses, even personal ones
  • Registering sockpuppet accounts
  • Signing up for websites and engaging in questionable activities
  • Reading the email or private messages of users on services associated with the domain
  • Sending anything that could be considered spam or harassing email; reports of this will result in immediate termination of all domains assigned to you.
