Replace orain privacy policy link on Encyclopedia National

Hello I'd like your privacy policy to be replaced with the link of Encyclopedia National's original policy. The policy is located here Our policy. The Encyclopedia National has always maintained its autonomy since its foundation, and we would like to keep our autonomy. Also I would love for the Encyclopedia National logo to be turned into the favicon of the Encyclopedia National as well.--Tyreek (talk) 17:40, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi Tyreek. Do you have any specific issues with our privacy policy? I understand that you enjoy your autonomy, and you do have it, but the privacy policy is legally binding and is managed globally. Kudu ~I/O~ 21:56, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
Kudu, I do not have anything against your privacy policy, it is just that the Encyclopedia National's privacy policy works with how the administration of the wiki works with users.--Tyreek (talk) 13:54, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
I think it would be good for users to have more control over their wikis. I'll point out that changing the privacy policy link probably won't be a huge deal, since end users of Orain presumably don't have access to any sensitive user information. It shouldn't matter either way for the same reason though. If there's any way to include both, that's what I suggest. Inquisitor Sasha (talk) 22:37, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
I remember you @_@ From WikiHub, any hi. The encyclopedia national has always deserved its autonomy. Our administration has maintained great control over our wiki and its easy to track someone's IP Sasha.--Tyreek (talk) 03:02, 20 February 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, there are a lot of ways. Unless Orain has blocked it, there are ways of exploiting the block functionality to reveal IP addresses. I don't know to what extent Orain staff patrols and has the ability to monitor all JavaScript pages, but there is a vulnerability there, though one that would not be tolerated exploiting. Hopefully this isn't enabled, but just adding an external image to a page will do it. Inquisitor Sasha (talk) 12:08, 20 February 2014 (UTC)
Here's my two cents: If it were up to me, I wouldn't change the link. While I do appreciate (and agree with) the autonomy of Encyclopedia National, the privacy policy is a legally binding document that, if not properly constructed, can lead to legal issues for both you and Orain in the future. The Orain Privacy Policy has been extensively reviewed and therefore should be the only privacy policy in effect across all of Orain. Having two privacy policies, one that is globally managed and one that is locally managed will also confuse users. With regards to personally identifiable information, the Privacy Policy isn't meant to govern what the end user (the "average Joe") can see/access, but rather to protect their information from those who could have access to it because of their positions at Orain. Bottom line: While just changing the link may seem simple, innocent, and not a big deal, it actually can have a much bigger impact than what meets the eye and I would strongly advise against it. -- Joe G. (Talk) 14:03, 20 February 2014 (UTC)
There is no need to exploit, some Orain user gave a website that tracked a Ip (which I still find creepy). And we have read over our privacy policy several times. Ours can co-exist with Orain's and it would not be confusing. --Tyreek (talk) 14:16, 20 February 2014 (UTC)
I understand that you believe that yours is adequate, and I'm sure that you have reviewed it several times. For legal reasons, however, Orain has had its privacy policy throughly checked by third parties ensuring its thoroughness and compliance with the applicable laws. I do not see a legitimate need for you to change the privacy policy on Encyclopedia National if you claim that you have no problems with the current global one. If you still feel that you need a different policy, please explain what the key differences would be form the global one. I'm sure Orain does not want to take any legal risks, so specific change details would be appreciated. Again, this isn't up to me as I don't have an official position within Orain. One last point: It would be confusing because you would have a global policy that applies to all wikis regardless if it is in that link or not, and then a local one that may contradict the global one. I think further discussion on the allowability of a different privacy policy locally is warranted answering which would have precedence, what would/would not be allowed in the local one, and if it would even be allowed to happen. Thanks, -- Joe G. (Talk) 15:09, 20 February 2014 (UTC)
Difference is ours has existed long before theirs and damnit I want our privacy policy back. It would never contradict the gloabl one nor would it make any legal risk.--Tyreek (talk) 15:37, 20 February 2014 (UTC)
(outdent) If you could please outline the differences between the global one and your local one, that would be appreciated. It may not appear to you that there is a legal risk, but due to the way laws are typically written, risks exist that do not meet the eye. I remind you, I am not an official representative of Orain, all I am trying to do is get as much information from you as possible to help them make a decision. -- Joe G. (Talk) 15:40, 20 February 2014 (UTC)
Or they can make it themselves, right? But there is also the fact there could be 2 options, at the bottom adding Orain's privacy policy, and a text that adds the Encyclopedia National's policy?--Tyreek (talk) 19:22, 20 February 2014 (UTC)
Hi Tyreek. I'd like to emphasize the fact that a privacy policy should only govern the use of private information. Hence, it would be illogical for local wikis to define their own privacy policy, since they would be regulating the use of private information that they don't have access to. You are more than welcome to institute policies regarding articles, content, rules, etc. You are also welcome to suggest changes or improvements to our global privacy policy. Kudu ~I/O~ 23:23, 20 February 2014 (UTC)
An impartial comment regarding privacy comments, there should never be two privacy policies from a single organization. Also Privacy Policies should and can only be defined by those with access to private information.—cyberpower ChatOnline 01:29, 21 February 2014 (UTC)

Break

I've stayed out of this for a bit, simply observing hoping that this could come to a resolution on it's own. Tyreek, if you could - please let me know what's in our Privacy Policy that concerns you. Your users have absolute anonymity, as do all Orain users. You see, the policy dictates specific things, instructions, processes, ect. that have to be followed regarding your PII {personally identifiable information}. None of us (us being the Stewards) access your information on a regular basis (or even at all). Taking a look at the checkuser log, there have only been two CheckUsers this year, at they were on the same individual (it was actually a spambot - my guess is it was to make a globalblock). I, along with the other Stewards, have designed Orain for anonymity. The only individuals who's information has been collected and retain are individuals who want to potentially come up to the Steward level, or individuals who may come into a position of trust with their local wiki and may need access to PII locally. If you, or someone else from EN want to become a local CheckUser to ensure that PII isn't being accessed to help ensure your anonymity, I see no reason that you couldn't. You would simply need to have a local election and that person would need to be the age of majority for your local area. That person would then need to see either myself or John to go through the identification process.

In short, the Orain privacy policy is globally binding, and that's actually for your safety as well as ours. Myself, being the individual actually responsible for Orain, am legally liable for anything and everything that the users on the site may or may not do. As such, Orain has to take those safeguards. If you, once again, would like to talk to me either on IRC or via email and let me know what specific concerns you have - you're more than welcome to and we'll address those.

In another aspect that kind of needs to be addressed - local wikis can make their own rules and regulations regarding the use of CheckUser and access to PII (i.e. the use of suppression and oversight). Those rules still need to at minimum coincide with the global policy, but wikis are welcome to place local, additional, restrictions on the information. That does not trump the Stewards ability to intervene and/or make a global action to protect the project. Stewards have an obligation to the global project to ensure it's safety, as well as the safety and security of it's users. Dusti*Let's talk!* 02:59, 21 February 2014 (UTC)

Not done It's very apparent the stewards are not going to replace the link to the privacy policy however, Tyreek has been suggested to propose changes to the policy to be discussed by the stewards.—cyberpower ChatOnline 16:04, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
You know what, how about you just let the stewards handle this on their own freaking times eh? Huh? --Tyreek (talk) 16:13, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
As an administrator, I can close this request too. And they said no.—cyberpower ChatOnline 16:14, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
Fine then. --Tyreek (talk) 16:15, 21 February 2014 (UTC)

I don't recommend doing this without permission, since it might upset the admins who have said there's a legal issue, but you could add or replace information using JavaScript. There's no insert after function of JavaScript the way there is for inserting before a page element, but one could probably be created. You could add a separate link for additional policies. As long as your privacy policy is more restrictive and only adds policies without contradicting Orain policies, they shouldn't have a problem. I recommend asking them first so they don't make an issue if they object. Inquisitor Sasha (talk) 17:30, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
