Is it true what I have heard that Tropical Wikis is being merged into Orain? Because I have two wikis there, PigaLore and MWM, and am seeking assurances as to the saftey of the data of those databases, as both have been inaccessible for a notable period of time. I am User:Technopeasant on that service. Thank you. http://icculus.org/~graham/ 173.210.222.76 03:44, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
- Hi 173.x, you're correct, TropicalWikis did decide to move its wikis to Orain. However, they had some complications regarding storage and we are currently waiting for them to provide the wiki data. I'm afraid this is out of our control as it's a TW matter. Sorry for the inconvenience, Kudu (talk) 15:02, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
- Hey, I am just glad that I finally got a response from someone. I hope they do manage the move though, as your new service does look pretty good. 173.210.222.76 19:12, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
- Oh, just one thought. Do you have an e-mail address or something from anyone at TW? As the best I have been able to do is try and attract their attention from their Wikipedia talk pages. 173.210.222.76
- Sorry, I do not. I pinged one of their staff members on IRC just now. Kudu (talk) 17:38, 9 November 2013 (UTC)
- Unless you have heard something I have not, I am getting really close to just cutting my losses and starting new wikis here with a data recovered from an old host and the Wayback Machine. Thoughts? 173.210.215.194 00:00, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

- (outdent) Unfortunately, we have been unable to make contact with TropicalWikis staff. Neither the wiki data nor the domain have been acquired. This is quite unfortunate for anyone who has hosted a wiki on TropicalWikis as they will have to probably start from scratch again or use Wayback Machine. I can assure you Orain has been attempting to make contact with TropicalWikis and will gladly work with them to get things transferred over to our servers. If, and when, we are able to make contact with TropicalWikis, we will report back to the community to make sure everyone is in the loop. At this time, that is all I can offer, unfortunately. You are free to try to contact TropicalWikis staff and express your concerns that your wikis hasn't been moved. Thanks, -- Joe G. (Talk) 00:55, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
- I have been doing so - in fact I just sent out my last e-mail to FrozenWind a few days ago. I think you might have missed the sub-text of my previous post. I shall put it another way then. Theoretically, how hard would it be to handle if I give you old wiki data from one of my wikis' old hosts (Wiki-Site), which I then update as much as possible with Wayback data, and then later, if Tropical Wikis ever gets back to us, merge in the data from there? Even if this is not feasible I am seriously considering setting up shop here on my own, as over five months of down-time with no feedback is getting ridiculous. If necessary I can handle correlating the revisions myself if we ever get word back. 173.210.215.194 18:20, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- My apologies, your question was clear, I just forgot to answer it amidst my explanation. It is not complicated for us to set up a new wiki for you right now and you can use Wayback machine to copy-paste the old pages into the wiki. However, should the pages be significantly changed from then to the time (if we ever do) receive the TropicalWikis' data, it would be very difficult for you/us to import them into your wiki because of these changes. My suggestion is to start the new wiki with us now and import the pages from Wayback machine and just improve them from there. I have doubts that we will ever receive data from TropicalWikis as we have now been waiting close to five months since our last contact with them. -- Joe G. (Talk) 22:52, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
- Hello all, We received an update from TropicalWikis which is unfortunately all data has was permanently removed in October/November with no backups being made. Unfortunately this means that Orain is unable to import and restore any wiki. I apologies for any inconvenience caused by this on behalf of all the Orain team. - Figured as much, though I must admit I am a bit perturbed they did not tell me personally. Well, that and them being so short-sighted as to not create a backup before such a major operation (or at least given me the option of doing that on my own for my wikis before they proceeded). Anyhow, any possibility of importing this: http://pigasoftware.a.wiki-site.com/, so I can get back up and running? Thanks for your courteous response. 173.210.215.194 06:15, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
- Just to be specific, I wish for the URL to be http://piga.orain.org/ or some such and the wiki's formal title is PigaLore. If you can just establish that, I can get to work cleaning up and merging in what data I grabbed from the Wayback Machine. I will get in touch about restoring/rebuilding my MWM Wiki after that is completed. I have just now created my global Orain user account (so make me an admin in my new wiki obviously).
