Hi, I'm a staff member on ShoutWiki. We are not about profit. All money we make goes towards further improving ShoutWiki, improving our hardware and software, hopefully paying staff in future etc. Therefore, the table on your main page is wrong. Wikia
Whilst I don't dispute Wikia are for profit, using what is essentially an anti-wikia page is hardly a neutral reference regardless of the feelings of the author(s) of thispage. Might I suggest [1] which is used as the reference for enwiki's Wikia article when describing them as for-profit?

Recent Orain Issues
Hello all,
I first want to start by thanking everyone who's remained loyal to the project, and who's been around to assist. Each and every one of you are the reason that this project is so successful, alive, and doing well.
We've recently ran into issues regarding RamNode, where our servers are held. What I didn't realize was that there are currently two (now three) different invoices for RamNode. When a payment reminder was sent, a PayPal transaction was automatically set up to handle such. When another reminder was sent (RamNode sends three), I assumed that the payment simply hadn't been applied yet. This is an oversight on my part, and I apologize for the inconvenience.
We were recently down for two days due to a security breach. Our VPS had been compromised due to a patch not being applied quickly enough, and as such, our VPS had been used to send DoS attacks. We worked with RamNode directly to secure our VPS and ensure that such activity couldn't continue.
I have made myself available, as the Founder of Orain, to the active Stewards who can contact me directly should there be any issues. We just recently renewed our SSL certificate for another year, and will continue to strive to better ourselves, our services, and thus our community.

New Featured Wiki // Translations Needed
Hello all! We now have a new featured Wiki -- All The Tropes! I've updated the English side - so if my multilingual friends could provide translations - that would be awesome :) (I've also updated the main page protection to edit=admin, I'm not sure if that messes with the ability to provide translations or not? Profit
I do not see why making a profit is a bad thing. The only problem arises when you mistreat the customers in the process of making a profit; the profit alone doesn't hurt anyone. Not that not making a profit is bad either, mind you. 99.240.156.249 21:22, 30 August 2014 (BST)
- Making a profit is not bad, we're in a few hundred dollars surplus right now to be fair, but when an entity exists as commercial - that is the thing that makes it bad. As the service, as commercial, exists to make optimal money and if it makes a loss, they will do whatever to gain a profit either by forcing something on a user to pay for etc. John (talk) 21:40, 30 August 2014 (BST)
The Trouble with Nginx
I don't know whether this topic should go somewhere else on the Wiki, but I have been having a number of problems with the Nginx server (most of them are 504 gateway timeouts, with a few 403 forbidden's around). Delete a Wiki
Hi!, we are the owners of the Wiki ipbritanico.orain.org and we would like to delete that wiki from Orain. What shall we do in order to do that?.
- Wiki's can currently be made completely inaccessbable by having the database entry removed from the Database list, but a sysadmin would have to delete the actual wiki files if you required it. You will probably want to contact a sysadmin directly, or leave a notice on the Stewards' noticeboard. Do you mind if I ask why you don't want the wiki hosted on Orain anymore? MediaWiki versions
The MediaWiki versions 1.24.x and 1.19.x in main page are both outdated. Could admins replace these with 1.41.x and 1.39.x respectively and maybe loosen protection to allow autoconfirmed users to edit? Silicona (talk) 20:13, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
