Modified Monaco skin

Hi. I am not an Orain staff member. I moved your comment here from my talk page just so you wouldn't lose it when I removed it from my talk page.

I see that Mediawiki.org has pages about additional skins that are not part of the standard set of Mediawiki skins, and that your stuff is there too. Better categorization and better organization of all the skin info there (from all sources) would be helpful.

mw:Skin:Monaco might have links added for the Monaco variations out there. --Timeshifter (talk) 17:08, 15 September 2013 (UTC)

Hello

I'm in. Where should I help out? Inquisitor Sasha (talk) 01:45, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

Well, if you want to add some more to the MW Testers Wiki, that'd be great. Also, dunno if the Orain staff need anymore help, but you could always ask. If you want to set up your wiki here, I'd make an XML dump of it (it's small enough you could dump every single page with Special:Export) and ask the Orain guys create a wiki for you here with that XML as your start up content. Arcane (talk) 01:53, 7 February 2014 (UTC)
I actually just changed the address of the wiki to http://www.bigotrywiki.ssu.lt and made it accessible again, without the notice at the top. I did remove the old bigotry.sashaweb.net so it will be like the wiki is completely starting over. Sturm originally wanted it, but I'm going to take out the "Hosted by Sturmkrieg" link, which I think should get him off of us a little. Inquisitor Sasha (talk) 02:13, 7 February 2014 (UTC)
Cool. Thought you were going to set up here, but that works. :) Arcane (talk) 02:49, 7 February 2014 (UTC)
I just redesigned the main page, and that domain works now. I might move it here at some point. There is going to come a point where it will have to move to a wiki with a proper database, but it seems to work fine for now. I think that's due to not being at GoDaddy and not trying to run a wiki hosting service on the server. Inquisitor Sasha (talk) 08:59, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

New Rational Wiki

I founded it at Orain. http://rationalwiki.ssu.lt/wiki/Main_Page I'll work on importing pages and writing a mass attribution script for the site JavaScript page. Inquisitor Sasha (talk) 17:35, 21 February 2014 (UTC)

I recommend you request one of these be imported to give yourself a head start. GethN7 (talk) 19:23, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
I just tried to import that after requesting import access, which is what they told me to do. It was too big, but I'm working on importing large categories, which should give most of the actual content. Inquisitor Sasha (talk) 19:35, 21 February 2014 (UTC)

Automatic attribution of imported content

I made a script here for mass attributing imported content. The problem with it though is that it will attribute every single page, regardless of whether it was actually imported. I looked for ways for the script to get the creation date of the page. It would work for forked wikis where all pages created before a specific date are treated as imported and would be tagged with attribution. I might make a repository for JavaScript and CSS scripts. Lieutenant S., Geschichtsmeister des Lexipedium (talk) 22:28, 22 July 2014 (BST)

That seems pretty reasonable to me, althougth if the blog uses their real name, I don't see a reason to censor that, just anything else that could be use to dox them on the wiki. GethN7 (talk) 22:31, 22 July 2014 (BST)
It's like how Reddit doesn't allow users to show the names of people in screenshots of creepy or jacked up statements. Sure it might have been posted in public under their real name, but we might as well make it slightly less likely that the person will completely ruin their entire life because of it. Keep in mind that someone getting wrecked by dumb behavior can affect other people around them, especially if they're married. Attributing an entire wiki using CC

Do you know what the best way to do it is? Lieutenant S., Geschichtsmeister des Lexipedium (talk) 22:32, 30 October 2014 (GMT)

Given it was under a non specific "use attribution" clause, then had CC licensing applied, assuming everything was properly attributed before the CC licensing was applied (I assume with community assent/approval), then just import an XML dump of the content from the wiki you are forking and make sure you use the same license if it has a Share-Alike clause. If it was just CC BY (attribution only), you can still import it as CC BY SA, but make sure to mention in your licensing notes where the original content was derived, which should suffice for blanket attribution purposes. Arcane (talk) 00:33, 31 October 2014 (GMT)
There was no community discussion about this. Lieutenant S., Geschichtsmeister des Lexipedium (talk) 16:28, 31 October 2014 (GMT)
Then i would attribute it under CC-BY if you want to go Creative Commons route. It would afford more copyright weight than a non CC version of attribution required at any rate. If not, given the CC licensing there was imposed without community consent, I would still have some form of CC licensing anyway for legal reasons. (it's more defensible in court, should it come to that). Arcane (talk) 19:10, 31 October 2014 (GMT)
To my knowledge, there isn't a lot of case law on CC attribution (though IANAL). The license itself is pretty vague, but really the answer is simple -- provide the best attribution that you can. On All The Tropes wiki, we put in every page's history the original location of the information, the name of the former wiki, and that page's history. If you're taking from another Mediawiki site, that metadata is usually included via Special:Export. You'll probably want to mention the source on your wiki's general disclaimer page or copyrights page. If the wiki was CC-BY, you can relicense it with virtually any other license that requires attribution, from the GFDL to CC-NC-BY-SA-ND. My own personal preference is CC-BY, though. Extension Collection problem on a wiki

Hi there Arcane! Sorry to bother you but I have this problem:

I can now see the Extension Collection is installed on fmucanat.orain.org (sidebar "print/export" menu included), but for every page (even outside the main page) the "download as pdf" option links to a pdf rendering of the main page of the wiki and not of the page I'm on... Also, every single book rendering fails... Are there any solutions to this?

Thanks for the attention! E samarta (talk) 22:53, 19 November 2014 (GMT)

The Collection extension does require a little customization for each wiki, now that I think about it, and I'll probably have to add some custom settings tweaked for yours. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, will look into it. Arcane (talk) 23:09, 19 November 2014 (GMT)

(My answer to this here:) I was indeed thinking about making the wiki go public, but only in the future (when I would have a sufficient number of articles). This could take months or even a year. But if eventually the collection extension is going to work (by making the wiki public), I'd like to keep it and when the moment arrives I'll ask the wiki to go public. Thanks again for the help. E samarta (talk) 00:34, 20 November 2014 (GMT)

Fine by me. :) Arcane (talk) 00:53, 20 November 2014 (GMT)

Dear Arcane,

I just filled a feature request. Are you able to do this for me before 12 o'clock (GMT+1)? (so one hour from now). I would like to go public today at 12, as I think it is the right timing. I have to compete for attention with other information aimed at the same target group.

Thanks alot!

Default language

Hi there again!

Recently I've noticed that, altough my wiki was originally created in Portuguese, its default language is now English, which messes up a lot of things such as finding pages or categories.

Could you change it back to Portuguese, please?

Wikimedia Commons

Does Orain Wikis prefer us to use duplicate images on the Commons whenever possible? Does the Commons encourage this to be done? Is a cached copy kept here on Orain for any of the thumbs used here on Orain? I am curious as to how it all works.

Here is a duplicated image I noticed today:

I use it on a page that I am copying/moving from Wikia. --Timeshifter (talk) 00:56, 27 December 2014 (GMT)

Orain has no issue with you keeping files on their servers, but if you can use copies from Commons only, it's preferred. Commons themselves doesn't mind keeping duplicate files in different formats, but duplicates in the same format are discouraged most of the time. If the files are from Commons, no, no cache is kept on Orain, it's derived from Commons. Arcane (talk) 03:03, 27 December 2014 (GMT)
OK. I will use the Commons image. I deleted the duplicate image uploaded to Orain.
Here is the description page on Orain for the Commons image:
https://cannabis.orain.org/wiki/File:Dana_Beal_1994.jpg
In Firefox when I right-click the full-size image, and then click "View Image Info", it says that full-size image is on the Commons:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3c/Dana_Beal_1994.jpg
I do the same thing on the thumb on this page:
https://cannabis.orain.org/wiki/Dana_Beal
It says the thumb is here:
https://static.orain.org/cannabis.orain.org/images/thumb/3/3c/Dana_Beal_1994.jpg/450px-Dana_Beal_1994.jpg
I like the fact that the full-size image is coming from the Commons. Some of those full-size images can be megabytes in size. The Commons has the server power to handle that. I avoid uploading images greater than 500 kilobytes in size to wiki farms. In order to avoid further stressing the bandwidth loads of the smaller servers. --Timeshifter (talk) 05:29, 27 December 2014 (GMT)

Uploads disabled on [1]

please check: [2]. Thank you, Fiala1 (talk) 11:14, 30 December 2014 (GMT)

I'm not Arcane but the file upload function was disabled for a few hours due to disk issues. You can upload files again. Southparkfan (talk) 14:32, 30 December 2014 (GMT)

Delete files that are also on commons

Is there a way to find the list of files, that I uploaded onto orain, even though they exist in common? My wiki is right.orain.org. If yes, I'd delete them, to save space on orain. Fiala1 (talk) 20:08, 1 February 2015 (GMT)

Sadly, I do not know of an easy way to determine this, especially if the image was uploaded with a different filename or format. Arcane (talk) 22:37, 1 February 2015 (GMT)
I may be able to help. Here is a list I use on various wikis. All the results are in reverse chronological order.
The Orain upload page will tell you if an image is already on the Commons. Before the upload happens. But I it only works if the filename and format is the same. I just tested it again. When the image is the same there is this message that shows up: "A file with this name exists already, please check File:ImageName.jpg if you are not sure if you want to change it."
Once an image is uploaded to Orain (with a name different from any image on the Commons) there is no easy way to know if the image exists on the Commons. You can search the Commons for good images, and then use their filenames here on Orain. Without uploading them. Then go and delete similar images from Orain if you no longer need them.
Commons images used on the wiki (without uploading the image) have this message on their file page here: "This file is from Wikimedia Commons and may be used by other projects. The description on its file description page there is shown below." --Timeshifter (talk) 19:25, 2 February 2015 (GMT)
Thanks for all this information. I copy it over to Rightpedia, and will use them. Fiala1 (talk) 21:09, 2 February 2015 (GMT)

Feature requests

I updated my features requests. (https://right.orain.org) User security and videoflash are withdrawn. Still missing are easytimeline, math and visitor count enabling. Occasionally, if solved, we could close that request. Fiala1 (talk) 22:25, 5 February 2015 (GMT)

Math and EasyTimeline are feasible, I can look into working on that. Visitor count enabling is currently not possible for technical reasons: Our caching has effectively disabled it since the cache updates would stagger the results so badly no one would be able to get accurate data on visitor counts. If we can find a third part extension to re-enable this in some fashion, we will attempt to do so. Arcane (talk) 22:49, 5 February 2015 (GMT)
Math has been enabled. EasyTimeline requires additional setup preparations, will have to confer with the rest of Orain Staff on how to add that. Arcane (talk) 23:25, 5 February 2015 (GMT)

Throttled image and template upload

I found, images and templates upload is throttled, maximum speed is 1 image/sec or 1 template/sec. Is there a way to switch off throttling, and allow upload without delay? Fiala1 (talk) 20:24, 1 February 2015 (GMT)

I suggest you file an issue report regarding this, since we are in the middle of migrating servers. That way, we can more fully look at this if things do not normalize afterwards. Arcane (talk) 22:37, 1 February 2015 (GMT)
I found, that throttling is caused by a subsequential protection of the file or template. I excluded the protection, and the problem is solved. Do not bother with this. Fiala1 (talk) 21:02, 2 February 2015 (GMT)

Thanks for approving my request & a few queries

Hi, thanks for approving my Wiki request, but I went to https://meta.orain.org/wiki/Proposals_for_new_wikis#Health_and_Medicine_Wiki_.28Status:_Pending.29 and my Wiki request is still listed as pending and I don't see where my Wiki is I checked hmwiki.orain.org and there is no such Wiki. Fuse809 (talk) 16:38, 2 February 2015 (GMT)

You can find your new wiki here, my apologies for any confusion. Arcane (talk) 16:57, 2 February 2015 (GMT)
Thanks, um just one extra thing. How do I install extra extensions (e.g., I'd love to have a Jmol extension on it) on this Wiki? Fuse809 (talk) 17:13, 2 February 2015 (GMT)
You need to go here. Do bear in mind if the extension(s) is not in git/github repository it may take some time to fulfill the request, and some extensions may not be feasible for technical or security reasons. Arcane (talk) 17:51, 2 February 2015 (GMT)

Images in common

With several images I have a problem. They do exist in commons.wikimedia.org, I edit them into a page, and they do not show. An example is https://right.orain.org/wiki/William_Weisband, where the image WeisbandW.jpg does not show. In https://right.orain.org/wiki/Albert_Einstein for example the image Einstein 1921 portrait2.jpg shows perfectly. Any ideas why this happens and how to fix this? Unsolved Feature Requests for the End of Time Wiki

Hello, it's been quite some time since I requested the feature requests for the End of Time Wiki. I know that the Wiki hasn't been updated in awhile, but the playerbase doesn't have much interest in the wiki if it doesn't have many of the features lined out in the request; specifically, some sort of media handler and a forum extension. The logo definitely needs to be changed as well, not to mention the disabling of dismissable site notices if at all possible. I understand that many of the requests I gave cannot be implemented, but what about the ones without comment, such as WikiForum? --Dr. Swordopolis (talk) 11:10, 21 March 2015 (GMT)

I got the logo changed, and I added TimedMediaHandler. Wikiforum was added to the repo, but I haven't added it to your wiki because I couldn't get into our server via shell to verify it was added properly, trying to figure out that problem still, so you'll want to ask another staff member for help with this. TMH may not work properly at present if the database tables haven't been added, again, ask another staff member for help. Arcane (talk) 06:01, 22 March 2015 (GMT)

A thread at Stormfront clarified the user Mikemikev and Fiala1 accuse of being this man called Kimmo Alm is actually someone else. The second link could also be as dubious. Both Mikemikv and Fiala1 seem obsessed with Metapedia (they hold a grudge as both were banned there) and Rightpedia seems to be their new place to write crap/lies about Metapedia editors. SwordMight (talk) 00:34, 9 May 2015 (BST)

I have reviewed the content you have pointed out, and so far I see nothing that breaches our ToU. Mere discussion and speculation about someone's identity in a civil manner with links to sources for which such speculation is derived as well as opinions based on cited sources are not in and of themselves a violation of policy, and I have seen nothing that is anything other than mere ideological differences of opinion. I'm sorry you are offended by their ideological views, but they are entitled to their opinions as much as you are entitled to yours. I have no stake in this either way aside from wanting to maintain the policies of this site, and so unless they are making "doxing plans" or otherwise spreading deliberate assaults on someone's reputation, I see no policy breaches. If you are trying to protect the reputation of Kimmo Alm, I understand that, but it would be up to him to make complaints of libel, which we would of course duly look into and deal with if that is true, which at this point what you directed me to does not qualify. Arcane (talk) 00:44, 9 May 2015 (BST)
This is probably Atlantid. Mikemikev (talk) 06:22, 9 May 2015 (BST)
" Mere discussion and speculation about someone's identity in a civil manner with links to sources for which such speculation is derived as well as opinions based on cited sources are not in and of themselves a violation of policy", you're telling me I can set up a Wiki with Orain and just post junk about people? I thought these were encyclopedias for informative content? If you look at Rightpedia, there are barely any edits there (excluding the anti-Semitism) other than its 3 editors obsessing about "Kimmo Alm" or "Atlantid". It is worth to mention the primitive vandal attacks of this person under the names, among others SwordMight and Avigilante against Rightpedia on 10th of May 2015 https://right.orain.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ALog&type=newusers&user=&page=&year=&month=-1&tagfilter=&hide_patrol_log=1 and another primitive attack of the same person on 13-th May, under the name AtticNight . Since he gets immediately banned from rightpedia, he expresses his "thoughts" and his hate here. Fiala1 (talk) 08:48, 13 May 2015 (BST)

I'm sorry, are we meant to take you two clowns serious?
Fiala1 what happened about Mikemikev being a "Zionist spy"? Avigilante (talk) 09:42, 13 May 2015 (BST)

FYI, SwordMight and Avigilante are socks. ·addshore· talk to me! 11:01, 13 May 2015 (BST)
Yes, it's the same guy that wrote the slanderous ED articles, an ex metapedia editor with a case of terminal butthurt. Mikemikev (talk) 11:29, 13 May 2015 (BST)
Well, all accounts now locked. ·addshore· talk to me! 15:20, 13 May 2015 (BST)
<3 you @Addshore! NDKilla (talk) 15:22, 13 May 2015 (BST)

Just to point out Mikemikev has been posting libel against people on Encyclopedia Dramatica since June 2011. Two of his page creations were deleted for being "attack articles", where he posted lies, and he's been banned there on over two dozen sockpuppets. Aristotle (talk) 15:00, 16 May 2015 (BST)

"You're not the first person I've seen who wrote an attack article due to some grudge. We don't take kindly to that sort of stuff.". This was over 2 years before Mikemikev's entry there was created when he added a slanderous page against someone. In other words Mikemikev originally used to ED to slander people, but since his entry was created now criticizes the site. What an idiot hypocrite.Aristotle (talk) 14:59, 16 May 2015 (BST)
Here view his talk page on his first account:

As long as he behaves himself here, we do not concern ourselves with his conduct elsewhere, so do not further antagonize him or do anything that could cause yourself to be banned. Arcane (talk) 16:18, 16 May 2015 (BST)
Rightpedia attacks Jews, and there is Holocaust denial all over it. How did it pass orain.org's rules? Other than all the anti-Semitism, both editors Mikemikev and Fiala1 openly identify as neo-nazis too. If you had any conscience just close their site and ban them, but you're only after $$$ like Dusti right? Aristotle (talk) 16:42, 16 May 2015 (BST)
Please do not get personal. Orain is a nonprofit, so no, were not after $$$, all money we earn is poured right back into funding this service. As for their views, we personally disagree with them, but we believe in the allowance of free speech, repulsive though it might be, as they are entitled to their political beliefs so long as they do not incite criminal activity. If you do not agree, I'm sorry to hear that, but that's our current policy. And again, we do not concern ourselves with the offsite activities of our users. Arcane (talk) 17:28, 16 May 2015 (BST)
I have blocked and locked Aristotle as a sock of Avigilante ·addshore· talk to me! 19:18, 16 May 2015 (BST)

Inactive wiki log

Hi. I have seen you have posted a inactive wiki log on Southparkfan's page. Is that a script you ran or something? If it is could you please run it again (because that one is a bit more outdated) --Reception123 (talk) 08:39, 2 July 2015 (BST)
