Thanks Southparkfan! It's nice to see a familiar user. Wynter (talk) 19:32, 1 October 2014 (BST)

Adding features to the End of Time Wiki.

Hello, this is Dr. Swordopolis from the End of Time wiki. I had a couple of complicated requests submitted a month and a half ago and they ended up getting stalled out. I recently talked to Arcane about them but they were only able to do so much, as seen on their Talk Page. Would you be able to fully implement the feature requests of the TimedMediaHandler and WikiForum Extensions, please? Arcane said that they were already implemented to some extent, they just need to be verified. Moreover, would it be possible to disable Dismissable Site Notices for this wiki? --Dr. Swordopolis (talk) 16:10, 22 March 2015 (GMT)

Sorry, but I don't have shell access either. Maybe @Southparkfan: could help you with TimedMediaHandler and WikiForum. I'll try to disable Extension:DismissableSiteNotice, though. Wynter (talk) 16:35, 24 March 2015 (GMT)

Issues with Book Creator on wiki site

I was trying out the book creator feature on http://shepherdjournal.orain.org. It seemed to work okay until I tried to compile the book. It would process, but when I downloaded the book I would get a mostly blank screen with a little square in the middle. Then as I was trying to troubleshoot it, I accidentally disabled the whole thing. I was hoping that you could re-enable it and maybe take a look. Or, if there is something I'm doing wrong, let me know.

Thanks,

NG23055

I think I know what the issue is (#584). I'll let you know if/when it's fixed. Wynter (talk) 19:30, 6 April 2015 (BST)
@Ng23055: Please try making a book now and let me know if there are any issues. Wynter (talk) 23:39, 6 April 2015 (BST)

Hello, I'm also trying to understand how the book creator extension works on http://bibbia2000.orain.org. where you kindly enabled the Collection extension. At the moment it will only export to pdf and I cannot save the book. I would like to persist/save the book (i am aiming for 66 or more), and also export in other formats, in particular .odt, and maybe .xml, for further processing and web pubblication.

Can you suggest how to do this? thanks, --Simonpa71 (talk) 09:38, 22 May 2015 (BST)

(Because of the long wait, I decided to reply on Simonpa71's talk page.) Wynter (talk) 06:40, 24 June 2015 (BST)
(I cannot get over the impression that this way of having split conversations on mediawiki is weird) Anyhow thanks a lot! I was using the "export" feature for now, that is also useful, though it was hard to find a tool for converting from wikimedia xml to markdown/other formats. I could do it with a pandoc plugin, though again, it required some hacking.--Simonpa71 (talk) 07:06, 25 June 2015 (BST)
(I posted on your talk page because I didn't know if you would see my reply here.) If you need anything else, feel free to ask me or at Request features. Wynter (talk) 02:02, 26 June 2015 (BST)
I just got round to testing the book creator feature again. Saving works well. PDF printing is a bit temperamental: I try a few times and get "there was an error" (but won't tell me which), then I try a few times more and in the end I get my book. Wow!

BUT, there is a BUT. I got my brand new PDF to download, opened it and et voilà: there were my old pages. No updates. So, the question is: is that the expected behavior? Links to specific revision of pages? History books of what has been? But if I click the miniature icon link to the page, I get the new one. Some latency? Is it pointing to another database? I wonder. What are your thoughts on this? --Simonpa71 (talk) 22:11, 13 July 2015 (BST)

Update: the feature is degrading (rather like the people in Ubik), now it has lost some configuration bits and the pages and links are full of &coll- gobbledygook. Some problem with localization maybe? --Simonpa71 (talk) 13:49, 21 July 2015 (BST)

You rock!

Wynter for mediawiki-ops? No seriously tho :) danke für helping with the feature requests -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 19:38, 6 July 2015 (BST)

@NDKilla: I am considering applying to join the sysadmins (that's what you mean by mediawiki-ops, right?). How do I apply? (I couldn't really find much info about sysadmins on Meta.) Wynter (talk) 21:08, 6 July 2015 (BST)
@Wynter: I'd love to chat on IRC sometime if you could. There's more to being sysadmin (either roots or even MediaWiki-ops) than just making config changes in the ansible playbook, but that's an important start. If you want, ping a staffer (any voiced user) on our IRC channel or send an email to sysadmin (@) orain.org. Since I'm not on that mailing list (only roots users are on it]] please cc NDKilla (@) Orain.org or send the email to staff (@) Orain.org with your qualifications and what access you'd like to request. -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 21:14, 6 July 2015 (BST)
@NDKilla: (BTW, you don't really need to ping me on my own talk page :) ) Thanks for the info (the lists on Tech:Access and /roles/base/vars/main.yml are very informative). And, unfortunately, I don't really use IRC. Wynter (talk) 21:54, 6 July 2015 (BST)
(habit) If you'd like to email my Orain.org address to discuss anything before applying to the sysadmin list feel free to. Otherwise, good luck I suppose. Note: I currently support Wynter having push access to the Orain ansible playbook and would most likely support them having MediaWiki-ops access with some guidance from current sysadmins. -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 23:08, 6 July 2015 (BST)

A barnstar for you!

The Technical Barnstar
For your edits to the ansible playbook and your draft of the tech guide. Feel free to ask for advice or ideas for things to include if you'd like. <3 -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 23:13, 6 July 2015 (BST)
Thanks! For the tech guide, I'm planning on including most of the common feature requests that are handled at Request features. Wynter (talk) 01:41, 7 July 2015 (BST)
