Administrators' noticeboard
This page is for incidents and matters that need administrators' attention.
Here you can:
  • Ask an admin to block a user who is disruptive or is doing blatant vandalism/spamming.
  • Request user rights that can be assigned with the discretion of admins. (see User groups)
  • Other things that need admins' attention.

If you need stewards' attention, see Stewards' noticeboard, and for sysadmins' attention, see System administrators' noticeboard.

Wiki creator

I've come back because Arcane says that the sysadmins are active again, and so I am willing to continue helping. I would like to be a wiki creator so that I can decrease the latency with wiki creation. With enough trusted creators, we could possibly cut latency down to only an hour. This is very important for getting people to join. Lieutenant S. Reznov (talk) 14:42, 21 July 2014 (BST)

I'm not against the idea of this really. I'd like either User:Southparkfan or User:Revi to chime in quickly however before I make my decision as a sysadmin. But so far; I'm going to say yes. John (talk) 14:48, 21 July 2014 (BST)
You just returned an hour ago - and as you were active in a period I wasn't, I don't know you. Besides that, I've got one question for you: are you familiar with Orain's ansible-playbook (on GitHub) and do you know how to edit it? Southparkfan (talk) 14:56, 21 July 2014 (BST)
On the topic of questions actually;
1) Do you use IRC? If so; could you please join #orain on freenode?
2) Do you know the best ways to contact the system administrators in case of a technical failure/emergency?
The above won't decide whether you get anything or not. They are purely informational for me. John (talk) 15:00, 21 July 2014 (BST)
I would like to see more activities from you (such as commenting on new wiki requests, etc). (I would like to repeat Southparkfan's question.) — ReviComplaint? 15:13, 21 July 2014 (BST)
The playbook I could edit because I have experience using GitHub.
I haven't been using IRC, but I could use it if that is useful for discussing things here. It would be no problem.
If there were an emergency, I'd send emails to the sysadmins or the oversight address if relevant. If there's a phone number for really serious emergencies, I could use that. Lieutenant S., Geschichtsmeister des Lexipedium (talk) 15:14, 21 July 2014 (BST)
tech:User:John/Emails is a list of all mailaddresses. I don't know about a phone number. Southparkfan (talk) 15:16, 21 July 2014 (BST)
No phone numbers as we are just three people spread around and personal phones numbers are you know, iffy :). If you could be on IRC at times; it would be extremely helpful. I suppose I'll agree with SPF and Revi right. If you could become a bit more active and participate in any requests we might have, I see no reason not to grant you the rights shortly. John (talk) 15:33, 21 July 2014 (BST)
I could open up IRC when at the computer, if that would be helpful.
You can set up a phone number by opening an Orain Google account and setting a Google Voice number and adding sysadmin phone numbers to that. I think it will let you select times when messages or calls can be passed to specific numbers. I've heard that it's useful as a public number because of that. Lieutenant S., Geschichtsmeister des Lexipedium (talk) 15:45, 21 July 2014 (BST)
Please and that'll be interesting to look at. Right now; we're pretty good at responding to emails however (when I'm around, a few minutes delay is max for me) John (talk) 15:47, 21 July 2014 (BST)
I see no pressing issues with this request and strongly urge John to approve it promptly. -- Joe G. (Talk) 18:08, 21 July 2014 (BST)

Create MediaWiki:Lang and subpages

As on multilingual Wikimedia wikis (Commons, Meta, etc.), please create MediaWiki:Lang and language subpages with their language codes. For example, MediaWiki:Lang = en, MediaWiki:Lang/es = es, MediaWiki:Lang/fr = fr, etc. The ability to use {{int:lang}} to retrieve the current language would be invaluable for translation. See metawikimedia:MediaWiki talk:Lang for more details. Wynter (talk) 17:22, 4 March 2015 (GMT)

Done for the ones you linked. I'm not sure which other languages you want me to create.—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 17:29, 4 March 2015 (GMT)
My apologies for not being specific. Please also create these: (from Special:SupportedLanguages):
Thanks, Wynter (talk) 17:55, 4 March 2015 (GMT)
I'll create those. Tau Ceti (talk) 22:03, 4 March 2015 (GMT)
Done All others you will need to tell me. Tau Ceti (talk) 22:06, 4 March 2015 (GMT)
Thanks both of you. Wynter (talk) 06:57, 5 March 2015 (GMT)
Also could someone do these too:

Translation management

Please mark Proposals for new wikis/header for translation. Wynter (talk) 17:19, 5 March 2015 (GMT)

I'll do that. Tau Ceti (talk) 22:06, 5 March 2015 (GMT)
I think only local admins can mark pages for translation. Wynter (talk) 05:56, 6 March 2015 (GMT)
Anyone? Wynter (talk) 20:27, 8 March 2015 (GMT)
Done a while back. Wynter (talk) 07:17, 24 June 2015 (BST)

DB List edit / also request for autopatrol

Request features#Squaredanceideas (Status: Open) is partially done but the database list needs to be edited I believe.

Also I'd like to request the autopatrolled flag. I've created the pages Oversight and Checkuser and regularly make tiny edits to various pages or leave messages on peoples talk pages. I don't think there's really a need for anyone to ever patrol my edits.

I've handled the first request as the newest wiki creator. I'd still like autopatrolled as I'm a wiki creator and I still edit various pages. I don't like red exclamation points ;(

Thanks, NDKilla (talk) 12:17, 27 May 2015 (BST)

Not done I got sysop before I got autopatrolled. -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 11:12, 26 June 2015 (BST)

Autopatrolled flag

Can I have the autopatrolled flag. You can see my patrol log for more information. Cyborg (talk) 15:11, 6 June 2015 (BST)

Done FYI, your patrol log was useless in this case. That's you patrolling other people's edits, not whether or not all your edits should be automatically patrolled. I looked at your contributions tho and see no need to keep patrolling your edits. :) sorry for the delay -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 11:09, 26 June 2015 (BST)

Please block the user Petteri. He/She was creating a lot of pages with vandalism/spam. Cyborg (talk) 16:32, 7 June 2015 (BST)

Sorry for the delay. This is Not done. I feel like this user was just confused and maybe trying to edit on their wiki or something. I don't think It was a vandal. -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 11:07, 26 June 2015 (BST)

Delete unused files on Meta?

There's a lot of unused and out-of-scope files here on Meta (see Special:ListFiles and especially Special:UnusedFiles). Should they be deleted? Wynter (talk) 02:47, 26 June 2015 (BST)

I support deleting completely irrelevant images but a lot of "unused images" are files uploaded here for use on other wikis. -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 11:11, 26 June 2015 (BST)
Indeed, some of the files here on Meta are used as the logos on wikis[1] (which in my opinion is bad practice). I suggest that these files be kept temporarily and moved to their respective wikis at some point. Wynter (talk) 16:37, 26 June 2015 (BST)
Agreed. -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 21:21, 26 June 2015 (BST)

(reset indent) I've deleted all unused files,[2] except ones that 1) are used as logos on certain wikis (see User:Wynter/Meta files used as logos) and can't be moved or 2) pertain directly to Orain Meta or Meta-related issues (such as screenshots of wiki problems, etc.).
