Request for Wiki Creator

As addshore has told me to post on "Orain Meta", after I sent him an email I will. I would like to be Wiki Creator because I do not think there are enough. As NDKilla has been chosen administrator and sysadmin she will no longer have time to do all the Wiki Creating. Problem with thumbnail

@Fiala1: What do you mean it doesn't show up? It appears that the larger version was creating issues but the 283kB file currently uploaded works. Tech:Noticeboard#Thumbnail problems the image is now working because it was manually resized.. I've seen this problem in other places with large images.. Like I said on the noticeboard I'm not sure if it's an issue with the built in thumbnail size limiter or if it's an actual limitation that will have to be worked around. Delete my wiki

Greetings all. Please delete my wiki completely. I don't want the old pages showing up in any new wiki under this subdomain:

I have decided not to follow through and create another cannabis wiki. I was thinking of a different focus for this cannabis wiki, versus the other cannabis wikis out there I have worked on. But I don't have the time.

I want complete deletion and not adoption. That way people will not be confused if they see my user name on the edit history of any pages here. They were mostly framework pages and categories. Hi Timeshifter! I'm sorry to hear that you didn't have time to attend to your other cannabis wiki. Unfortunately, we do not delete wikis here at Orain upon request. Your wiki will follow the dormant wikis policy and be closed upon meeting inactivity criteria. If another steward of sysadmin wants to close it earlier, they may do so. After 6 months of inactivity, the wiki may then be permanently deleted. I do not think you will have anyone restoring pages with your username in the edit history, and if they do, you are free to ask them to remove it at their discretion. I can understand the hesitation on the part of a wiki farm to delete a wiki. Some wiki farms are OK with it, and some aren't. Wikis with one controlling person (only one bureaucrat or steward) should be allowed to do this in my opinion, especially if nearly all the edits are theirs. In my wiki, there are *no* pages to defend or be worried about. See:

https://cannabis.orain.org/wiki/Special:AllPages - only redirects show up. I am not even sure how they arrived here. I think a steward may have misinterpreted or enlarged one of my import requests. I did not bother deleting the redirects since they are not seen anywhere after all the pages were deleted. Those redirects in the "AllPages" results though might irritate somebody that adopts the subdomain. Why not give them a clean wiki instead, by deleting the wiki completely. Then give them single-bureaucrat status on the totally clean subdomain of cannabis.orain.org

From Dormant wikis page: "After 6 months of inactivity, a wiki may be permanently deleted from the network unless a request is made for archival where the wiki will be kept on the network indefinitely or until such a request becomes outdated." The dormant wiki page also says that someone can adopt the wiki within that period if they so wish. I know it is not your desire that someone does, but if they want to, we don't have a compelling reason not to let them. At this time, I am not in a position to make an exception to the policy and think it should stand as is. If another steward wishes to make an exception, that is their choice and I will respect it. OK. Could you ask the other stewards about this? Rules usually have exceptions. "I know it is not your desire that someone does". No, I want someone else to adopt the subdomain, cannabis.orain.org. I am trying to free it up completely.

I have a question. Is there some kind of mass delete function, I or you can use to delete all the redirects listed here:

https://cannabis.orain.org/wiki/Special:AllPages - nearly all of them never redirected to actual pages here. I only experimented with a few opinion pages here months ago when I was thinking of forking them from my pages on Wikia's cannabis wiki, where I am the sole bureaucrat. But I soon deleted the opinion pages here after further thought, and deciding against forking everything from Wikia to other wikis. I had already forked the Global Marijuana March city pages to Shoutwiki's cannabis wiki, where I am the steward. I had decided to keep the opinion pages on Wikia months ago. I was thinking of maybe starting another focus here on the Orain wiki. But I no longer have the time to do so. Anyway, I don't want to have to tediously delete the redirects one by one. Fatal exception of type MWException

I've noticed some wikis have been getting this error. Every few page refreshes it comes up. So far I've seen it on allthetropes and right orain wikis. The page is blank except for things like "[a2eacd4d] 2015-06-29 03:21:56: Fatal exception of type MWException" and "[bf1321ce] 2015-06-29 03:22:01: Fatal exception of type MWException". Monday, it came back and by mid-day everything was down on all wikis except for the very front page of meta.orain.org -- all other pages were down. I did a test and found that Cloudflare wasn't bringing up the CAPTCHA page for Tor so something is being routed wrong. Orain stayed down all Monday through the night and came back at some point today, Tuesday...but I only checked first an hour ago. Today, meta and allthetropes work perfectly but right gets errors about 3/4th of the time when not logged in and about 1/2 of the time when logged in. As of now it happens far more often on &action=history pages and Special: pages like Special:Recentchanges and submitting things to a show preview does it like all of the time. The MWException mainly affects right.orain even though the extensions are for another wiki, likely the testwiki. The testwiki and all the other wikis get intermitent errors but are not down. Sunday, Monday, and today right.orain gets growing MWException and then permanently goes down around noon from MWException. It stays down for about 22 hours, then is up about 2 hours, then goes right back down. Last month Orain had outages like this and it lasted weeks.

I tested it and I am not getting the Cloudflare CAPTCHA when I connect on Tor so Cloudflare is not up. That may be related to the issue. Chemtrail Morgellons (talk) 01:58, 1 July 2015 (BST)

Notification of resignment

Dear readers,

I write this message because I want to explain the community something. You may or may not know who I am, but I’m currently best known as a wiki creator, global sysop and system admininistrator who has been part of Orain since the beginning (in July two years ago!). I have various rights and roles here, and I have always contributed to Orain as best as I can. But, from now on, I will no longer be a wiki creator, global sysop or sysadmin.

I’ll immediately resign from all my positions (as of writing: Meta sysop, Meta bureaucrat, Global Rollbacker, Global Sysop, system administrator (and some other accounts related to this)). There are a few reasons for that.

I don’t really like the work anymore. Despite the fact that I work as a volunteer, I feel the work has become more of a responsibility than something you like to do. That’s not anyone’s fault (I really mean that), but I still don’t really enjoy it anymore compared to a while back before this. I don’t want to do volunteer work if I feel it’s not really volunteering anymore.

There are also some more reasons besides the above one, but I’d like to keep them private. I’d like to thank you all for all the great times I have had with you. It was a pleasure to work here. I hopefully may see you somewhere else, like on a Wikimedia project, or on IRC.

Oh, and as a last note: I will leave Orain, but not things which are more or less known by people on Orain (e.g. IRC and Wikimedia projects). Continued problems on All The Tropes

Every page has the same error when trying to load the subpage tabs at the top. Instead of the buttons to take you to Quotes, Laconic, and such, it displays "Lua error: callParserFunction: function "SUBPAGES" was not found". — Preceding unsigned comment added by QuestionableSanity (talk • contribs)

You're lucky allthetropes is even up. right is completely down while all others are up. Whatever's causing the tab error on allthetropes is in Template:Trope. Template:Trope has code like #vardefine, #ifeq, and #invoke which I've seen have parsing trouble on wikis. Chemtrail Morgellons (talk) 04:16, 1 July 2015 (BST)

Comment by Sysadmin @QuestionableSanity: @Chemtrail Morgellons: Orain is experiencing global issues with several extensions that use parser functions, and I'm having trouble figuring out why. The issue on ATT is caused by thee fact that several of these extensions have been disabled to make the site accessible. After being up and down for several days, I notice it's back now but the video code is very different. Not the code for using it, but the code it generates for displaying a video. Then I checked on other websites and I see it's actually YouTube that changed their code--all websites everywhere get this negative change. If you have flashblock and then rightclick to open a video in a new window, it used to display a nice full screen view https colon //www.youtube.com/embed/84hz9w2GlV4 and now it displays a broken view https colon //s.ytimg.com/yts/swfbin/player-vflCB26A5/watch_as3.swf#!flashvars#video_id=nascar-nscs15-day2-high5 . I wonder if YouTube was behind the extension problem.

Also replace "colon" with ":" on the links. I keep getting "Your edit includes new external links. To protect the wiki against automated spam, we kindly ask you to type the two words you see in the box below:" and no box comes up to enter the CAPTCHA into. Thank you for the account change. Hmmm... I notice the extension video is back off again. I don't know why the extension still has errors. It might be a combination of two extensions together like people taking multiple pharmaceutical pills as medicine and have bad interactions. I can't able to edit entire articles in my private wiki.

It's only available as 'View Source' and I can't edit them with the reason is 'You do not have permission to edit this page' even my account having administrator and bureaucrat rights on that wiki and there's no protection has applied. @NDKilla: The issue is with the commit you made last night. You removed the 'edit' right from the user group and now no one has the edit right at all on private wikis. You and I can edit them because we are given that right in our global steward group, but otherwise, no group on the private wiki has the ability to edit. @Joe G: Thank you, Joe. I am finished importing the farming simulator wiki latest revision XML export from the Wikia farming simulator wiki, under creative commons license. After some discussion with @NDKilla:, I've been made aware that some of the Wikia content needed to be deleted, as well as a large number of pages that were not written by me and not relevant to the new farming simulator wiki on orain. I believe I've completed all the obvious deletions, but still am going through each remaining page. I had also mentioned to @Reception123: on the requests board, but I would like to ask that, because this is a new wiki, and I am the only contributor so far, and I'm deleting all content that may seem unattributed, I want to ensure no possibility of any complaint or future restoration of deleted imported data. Would it be possible to please have someone run the maintenance scripts mw:Manual:DeleteOldRevisions.php and mw:Manual:DeleteArchivedRevisions.php (obviously only for farmingsimulator.orain.org)? I may have to request it be done again in the near future once I've gone over the remaining imported data, but wanted to ask now since the bulk of the obvious has been either deleted or removed in edits. The problem happened last month and it used to shut down Orain for days. It's many more extensions than this actually. There's embedvideo and there's what allthetropes uses on its article pages for a menu. I believe there's more. The adminstrators of Orain other than Addshore tried to fix it and could not so they disabled all the extensions. July 4, Addshore came in and fixed it, which lasted a day and then Orain started going down so I emailed him. Addshore, being the skilled technical person he is, fixed it so it permanently would never have Orain go down. He set it so the MWExceptions now get written into a logfile [2] so now Orain never went down from this again. (Wikia does the same thing [3]). The extention error wasn't fixed, just the issue of Orain going down completely. There appears to be a conflict between multiple extensions or god knows what because when the error occurs, all the extensions I mentioned stop working like they're disabled, but nobody disables them. An hour later, they work again. Addshore has not replied to emails since July 10 and the issue has remained as is. Addshore is a brillian technical person it seems (I thought so since I read this entry on his blog) but the issue still continues. Embedvideo itself is nothing more than some basic HTML code and it literally just needs a simple template with pure HTML that copies the exact code with a variable for the video and title and it would work the same -- the extension itself however appears to not cache its work for more than an hour and one option is replacing it with a pure HTML template (just copy the HTML code for each video site, likely only YouTube, and a Steward with permissions can make a pure HTML template). However invoking it while similar to invoking a template uses "#ev:youtube" and starting a template title with a "#" character is not allowed, though a template "ev:youtube" is allowed. Or perhaps Addshore or somebody can fix the extension issues permanently. It sounds like near the end of June an extension was either added or updated and multiple are conflicting. Orain technicians are the ones who have access to fix it. It is in Orain's server-side configuration. Addshore sent the errors to logfiles and the errors which my guess is are just the vague errors it used to send publicaly, "MWException" followed by random numbers. If the errors can be logged in detail, the source can be found. I am not sure how many extensions are affected but multiple extensions probably are in conflict with one another.
